Assign a unique switch OOB management IP address for each leaf and spine.
Leaf/Spine |
configure terminal interface Management 0 ip address 100.67.xx.yy/24 end write memory |
Note: Initial bringing up of new SONiC switches requires disabling Zero Touch Provision (ZTP). Use the sonic-cli configure terminal command "no ztp enable".
Note: It is a best practice to have a separate switch management network to access switches management interface eth0.
When you log in for the first time, you are prompted to change your password. Follow the steps to change your password and log in to the Linux shell.
You are required to change your password immediately (root enforced)
Changing password for admin.
(current) UNIX password: YourPaSsWoRd
Enter new UNIX password: newpassword
Retype new UNIX password: newpassword

admin@sonic:~$sonic-cli
Note: Dell Technologies recommends using strong passwords.
Configure the interface naming to “standard” and update the corresponding switch hostname. Enterprise SONiC allows you to use native, standard, or standard extended interface-naming mode. By default, the switch is in native mode. Dell Technologies recommends that you use the standard or standard extended interface-naming mode. To easily identify the front-panel port associated with an interface, enable standard interface-naming mode. For example, port 1 in standard mode is identified in CLI as "ethernet 1/1". In this case, the hostname is “LeafX,” where X is the leaf number.

Note: You must exit the MF-CLI session to the Linux shell to activate the interface naming mode and reenter the MF-CLI. The following message is displayed during the SONiC session: “Broadcast message: Interface naming mode has changed. Users running 'sonic-cli' are required to restart your session.”

Note: It is best practice to save configuration changes periodically using write memory in the base MF-CLI prompt.
