This document is intended to provide the details of the Functional Testing of Confluent Platform with Dell EMC’s ECS through S3 protocol as Kafka tiered storage and provide the observations to the Dell EMC and Confluent Field and Sales teams that could be used as caveats and guardrails when engaging with customers wanting to use Dell EMC ECS with S3 as tiered storage for Confluent Platform.

Starting with Confluent Platform 6.2.0, Tiered Storage on Dell EMC ECS Object Store is fully supported. Tiered Storage makes storing huge volumes of data in Kafka manageable by reducing operational burden and cost. The fundamental idea is to separate the concerns of data storage from the concerns of data processing, allowing each to scale independently. With Tiered Storage, you can send warm data to cost-effective Dell EMC ECS object storage, and scale brokers only when you need more compute resources.
