Use Bare Metal Orchestrator to configure RAID volumes on one or more servers in the managed cluster. You can configure RAID controllers on Dell PowerEdge servers and verified HPE iLO servers. Bare Metal Orchestrator also supports creation of a virtual RAID 1 volume for RHEL OS installation on Dell PowerEdge servers using a PERC S150 software RAID controller.
- Create RAID volumes and verify the creation.
- Delete RAID volumes and verify the deletion.
Operation | Description |
Create RAID volumes on a server | Update the RAID attributes while creating or editing a server. Create a server or multiple servers and update configurations |
Create RAID volumes on multiple servers | Update the RAID attributes while creating or editing a hardware profile. Create hardware profiles |
Create a virtual RAID 1 volume on one or multiple servers | Follow the steps for creating a server on one or multiple servers. When configuring the Server Spec, you must include the following attribute under the raidVolumes section for the volume to be created using the S150 controller:
Note: If the swRaid value is "No", the virtual volumes are created using Hardware controllers. If there is no value provided for the swRaid attribute, any available Hardware or Software RAID storage controller is used to create the volume. You must also specify the RAID 1 volume in the Operating System Spec. See Operating system deployment workflow - servers for more information. |
Delete a RAID volume or all RAID volumes on a server or on multiple servers | |
Verify if the RAID volume creation or deletion is successful on a server | View servers and server status |
Verify if the RAID volume creation or deletion is successful on multiple servers | View hardware profiles |
Requirements and limitations
- If the RAID controller is in the Enhanced HBA (eHBA) mode, then Bare Metal Orchestrator sets the value to RAID mode.
- For HPE iLO server RAID volume configuration, only hardware RAID controllers are supported.
- Before using an S150 RAID Controller to create a virtual RAID 1 volume on a Dell PowerEdge server, you must convert the PERC S150 RAID Controller disks to RAID capable in Linux Mode. To do this, complete the following steps:
- Access the iDRAC application in your web browser and launch the Virtual Console.
- Navigate to the BIOS settings.
- From the Device Settings, select DELL EMC PERC S150.
- Select Controller Management, then select Convert to RAID Capable Disk.
- From the Select Raid Type field, select Linux RAID, and then click Save.
