- Only one drive must be visible to the operating system for installation.
- If the server has the PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC) installed, only RAID volumes are visible to the operating system. Note: To install the RHEL operating system onto a virtual volume created by the PERC S150 RAID Controller, the installVolumeTypeOrder in the OS Spec must have the value RAID as the first type listed, with the virtual volume name supplied as the name value.
- If no drive is visible to the operating system, then the operating system installation fails.
- If more than one drive is available, the server boots up from the first drive that is configured in the boot order during the operating system installation.
Note: The boot order attribute settings and the supported drives are described in the operating system field definition tables for each operating system, see Operating system attributes.
- If the server has the PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC) installed, only RAID volumes are visible to the operating system.
- There must be enough free space to install the operating system, see Operating system deployment.
- You need the host operating system root user password for the
rootpw
attribute value when deploying certain operating systems. For details about attributes, see Operating system attributes.
You can deploy an operating system on one or on multiple servers at a time.
Observe the following:
- For ESXi installation, Bare Metal Orchestrator can perform custom driver installation by accessing the drivers from the Bare Metal Orchestrator web server or an external web server.
- For Ubuntu 20.04 LTS installation, you can configure network bonding during operating system installation. Standard Netplan formatted network configurations are supported. You can specify multiple NICs, enable DHCP, and more. For information, see the Netplan examples on the netplan.io website.
- For Wind River Cloud Platform deployments, you must install the Wind River operating system on each server in the cloud cluster that hosts a Controller-0 component. A sample operating system deployment YAML file os_install_wr.yaml is located in ~/samples/servers. See Sample operating system YAML files - Wind River Cloud Platform.
- If deploying Red Hat Enterprise Linux on a Dell or Supermicro server using a PXE device, you can use a Hardware Profile to deploy to multiple servers at the same time if they have common PXE supported NIC interfaces.
