The telecom industry is evolving from “black boxes” and “siloed cloud“ deployments towards a unified and consistent telco cloud platform. The real benefits of cloud transformation - full service economic model for the telecom services -emerge once full decoupling is complete. However, this transition is not a one-switch migration but rather a series of incremental enhancements. This transition provides telcos with experience and trust to build and operate the disaggregated platforms of the future. As of today, most of these cloud deployments happen for Core and OSS use cases, and mostly within the data centers. See Figure 2.
In the coming years, we foresee that the biggest cloud deployments will happen outside data center environments, capturing the cloud value in both Radio Access Networks (RAN) and Edge deployments.
