The SRDF SRA allows for a new installation or an upgrade of an existing installation. Depending on which method is used, the considerations for installation are slightly different. This section discusses both options as well in both SRM platforms, Windows and the Appliance.
The SRDF SRA has to be installed on both VMware SRM servers, be that the Appliance or Windows.
Note: Dell does not support running two versions of the SRDF SRA in the same SRM installation, nor does it support running different versions of the SRDF SRA at the protection and recovery sites, i.e., rolling upgrades.
The installation of the adapter is executed using the standard Windows InstallShield utility and must be run on both the protected and the recovery site. The software distribution consists of a single file that performs the installation of the SRDF SRA.
The SRDF SRA automatically sets the directory in which the adapter has to be installed. This is determined by using the information in the registry and the configuration file for VMware SRM. The installation directory is displayed by the installer but cannot be changed.
The two files placed during the SRA install (EmcSrdfSra.exe and command.pl) will be saved in the following directory on the file system:
<install location>\VMware\VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager\storage\sra\EMC Symmetrix\
The EmcSrdfSra.exe is invoked directly by SRM, though it can be run on the command line. If run on the CLI there are two possible switches to pass -env and version. If -env is passed, the EmcSrdfSra will list out the values for all parameters in the global options file as well as the contents of the test failover file and gold copy files. An example from SRA version 9.1 is shown in Figure 11.
If the -version switch is passed, the executable will provide the version of EmcSrdfSra.exe as in Figure 12.
While the Windows SRA is distributed as an executable, the SRA for the SRM Appliance is a zip file which contains two files. The first is a tar file which is the SRA itself. The second file is a shell script, enableAutoSSLCertGen.sh, which needs to be run on the SRM Appliance after the SRA installation. Begin, therefore, with the installation of the SRDF SRA. This is done through the SRM Appliance Management interface.
Navigate to <SRM_Appliance_FQDN>:5480 and login as admin. Select Storage Replication Adapters from the menu on the left. Select NEW ADAPTER in Figure 13.
Select UPLOAD and choose the SRDF SRA adapter tar file in Figure 14.
When the load completes, the Dell SRDF Adapter will be available for configuration in Figure 15.
