The following table presents our configuration recommendations, based on test results, for each of the tested workload types:
Table 5. Findings and recommendations by workload type
Workload | Findings and recommendation |
System memory (RAM) – memory bandwidth | The performance in PowerEdge R7625 is up to 98 percent higher than the performance in PowerEdge R7615. PowerEdge R7625 in 12-DIMMs-per-socket balanced configuration with 32 GB DIMMs provides the best performance and energy efficiency. We recommend the PowerEdge R7625 with AMD EPYC 9654 in a balanced 12-DIMM configuration. It offers up to 49 percent better performance than 8-DIMMs-per-socket configuration with 32 GB DIMMs. |
CPU-based AI inference | The 2-socket server (PowerEdge R7625) outperforms the 1-socket server (PowerEdge R7615) by up to 38 percent in the largest batch size of TensorFlow benchmark. The balanced configuration with 64 GB DIMMs has the best performance. We recommend PowerEdge R7625 featuring AMD EPYC 9654 in balanced configuration. |
Computer vision and 3D rendering | The time taken to perform the workload in PowerEdge R7625 is almost 80 percent lower than that in PowerEdge R7615. These are CPU-capacity-bound workloads. We recommend PowerEdge R7625 featuring AMD EPYC 9654P with a configuration of 6 DIMMs per CPU. Any memory size can be used, as long as the model can fit into the memory and there are enough slots for growth and future scalability. |
Structured data management and analytics (medium) | The PowerEdge R7615 performs up to 38 percent better than PowerEdge R7625. PowerEdge R7615 featuring AMD EPYC 9354P in the 8 DIMMs-per-socket configuration with 128 GB DIMMs had the best performance. We recommend the PowerEdge R7615 featuring AMD EPYC 9354P in the 8-DIMMs-per-socket configuration. It provides the best performance per dollar and best performance in most DIMM sizes. |
Web serving and client tier | PowerEdge R7615 performs up to 50 percent better than PowerEdge R7625. We recommend PowerEdge R7615 featuring AMD EPYC 9354P in a balanced configuration with 32 GB DIMMs. |
