The key point is to create the same load for all VDI workload types and check the performance of CPU, RAM, IOPS, and GPU (if available). The expected performance should show that the new generation server consumes less CPU, memory, and GPU.
In this approach, we emulated the typical business-related VM activities and tracked the server load. We ran multiple VDI sessions from 5 to 80 VM activities per session, with the step of 5.
Each VDI session was configured to run random activities that included:
On average, Dell EMC PowerEdge T350 uses 38.2% less CPU than T340.
In this subcase, the Grid Dynamics team tested how servers perform when handling large amounts of database-related operations and how they perform when executing massive workloads related to business intelligence (BI) needs.
We run server-related workloads on a powerful VM and tested the server’s performance in handling a large amount of database operations.
1 HammerDB is the leading benchmarking and load testing software for the world's most popular databases supporting Oracle Database, SQL Server, IBM Db2, MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL.
On average, Dell EMC PowerEdge T350 uses 33% less CPU than T340.
On average, the speed of Inserts for Database on Dell EMC PowerEdge T340 is 2.8% higher than Database on T350.
On average, the speed of Transactions commits for Database on Dell EMC PowerEdge T350 is 37% higher than Database on T340.
We emulated a typical task of a Business Data Analyst (BDA) who works with large amounts of data simultaneously to build a data visualization and report. More than 65 million POS data records for 2500 SKUs from 24 stores were used to create an analytical dashboard report with Microsoft Power BI, which is one of the leading business intelligence instruments on the market.
The data extraction, transformation, load and report generation speed on Dell EMC PowerEdge T350 is 18.1% faster than T340.
The RAM usage is the same for both servers.
