VMware Site Recovery Manager™ (SRM) provides workflow and business continuity and disaster restart process management for VMware vSphere. The software leverages storage array replication and communicates to replication management through a well-defined set of specifications.
As part of an effort to improve and enhance the performance and capabilities of its product lines, Dell periodically releases revisions of its hardware and software. Therefore, some functions described in this document may not be supported by all versions of the software or hardware currently in use. For the most up-to-date information on product features, refer to the product release notes.
This whitepaper discusses the best practices for implementing VMware SRM with the Dell SRDF SRA version 10.x and higher. It covers up to the PowerMaxOS 10.1.0.0 release.
This whitepaper is not designed to be the definitive source of supported products and features of PowerMax and VMware. Both Dell and VMware have extensive compatibility matrices which should be consulted when determining whether a particular platform or feature is supported. The whitepaper will refer to these throughout when covering features.
This document is intended for use by storage administrators, system administrators and VMware administrators.

Note: Examples provided in this guide cover methods for performing various VMware vSphere activities using PowerMax systems and Dell software. These examples were developed for laboratory testing and may need tailoring to suit other operational environments. Any procedures outlined in this guide should be thoroughly tested before implementing in a production environment.
