MTree replication is a PowerProtect DD series feature that enables copying unique data from the production PowerProtect DD series MTree to the PowerProtect DD series MTree in the Dell EMC PowerProtect Cyber Recovery vault.
MTree replication synchronizes data between the production environment and the logically air-gapped Dell EMC PowerProtect Cyber Recovery Vault. There are three levels of compliance: 1) none 2) governance (not immutable), and 3) compliance. Compliance is the only option that supports retention lock and creates immutable copies on the Dell EMC PowerProtect Cyber Recovery vault. They can be used for recovery and analytics after being copied to a read/write PowerProtect DD series MTree.
The Dell EMC PowerProtect Cyber Recovery software controls data synchronization from the production environment to the vault environment by PowerProtect DD series MTree replication. After the datasets and associated MTrees to be protected by the Dell EMC PowerProtect Cyber Recovery solution are determined, replication contexts are set up between the production and vault PowerProtect DD series.
MTree replication is designed so that all data within an MTree is replicated securely between the production and vault PowerProtect DD series. After initial synchronization is completed and all data is copied to the vault PowerProtect DD series, each subsequent synchronization operation only copies data segments that are new or have been updated.
