Converting Standard VM Switches to VMM Logical Switches

Converting Standard VM Switches to VMM Logical Switches

  • The imported cluster nodes will have the standard VM switch(es) that need to be converted to VMM logical switches. Before you can try out converting the standard switches to logical switches, you must first ensure that the properties of the standard switches match with that of the logical switch artifacts.

    You must ensure that:

    • The Standard and logical VM switch settings such as SET teaming mode, SR-IOV, bandwidth mode and bandwidth reservation settings must be identical
    • The virtual adapters attached to the standard switch are present in the VMM logical switch definition
    • The VLAN configuration on the virtual adapters attached to the standard switch is identical to virtual networks defined in the VMM fabric.

      • Note: The Convert To Logical Switch button in the standard VM switch properties within the node properties will not be enabled if any of the above criteria is not met.

    Once the above criteria has been verified, the following PowerShell commands can be used to convert the standard switch on each node to a logical switch. The following example uses two nodes.
