InsightIQ downsamples the data that is collected for performance reports. This action reduces the size of the stored dataset because there are many different statistics, and data can be kept for a long time. InsightIQ will normalize and combine samples together when it performs the downsampling. The downsampled metric represents a 10-minute period and the minimum and maximum value during that period will be retained. Any data that is older than 24 hours will be subject to downsampling. It is vital to note this behavior when viewing past performance graphs.
When viewing the performance graphs, take care to not only look at averages, especially when viewing data over a large time period. Averages can hide the most important information, which is the variance away from the average. A good detail level includes data over a 24- or 48-hour period for a close-up examination, or a 1-week period for an averaged view.
