The backup policy is created for image-level backups. It provides the backup schedule and retention period.
- Log in to Data Protection Central and go to Avamar UI.
- At the Avamar UI dashboard, under Policy, click Backup Policy.
- Click Domain and select the Hypervisor Manager.
- Click ADD under the Policy section to add a new policy.

- Enter the details for Properties:
- Name: Name of the policy
- Enabled: This option is checked when the policy is enabled; to disable the policy, uncheck the box.
- Override Schedule: Select appropriate option to skip and run next backup.
- Domain: Verify the domain i.e., Hypervisor Manager name.
- Auto Proxy Mapping: Uncheck if you are specifying the created proxy and select the proxy option from proxy column.
- Click NEXT.
- Enter the details for Members:
- Select the Hypervisor Manager from domain where service is added.
- Select the service to be protected.
- Enable dynamic rule if you have any.
- Click NEXT.
- Enter the details for Dataset:
- Dataset: Select dataset (for example, New) from the drop-down menu.
- Dataset Name: Name of the dataset
- Plugin Filter: Select the plug-in from the drop-down menu.
- Click NEXT.
- Enter the details for Schedule:
- Schedule: Select the schedule (for example, New) from the drop-down menu, and proceed accordingly.
- Schedule Name: Name of the schedule
- Recurrence Type: Select the required recurrence type.
- Backup Window: Select the backup window as per the recurrence type.
- Click NEXT.
- Select the retention drop-down menu to specify retention details.
- Click NEXT.
- Select the Cloud DR option if you have an available Cloud DR target.
This option is applicable when the backup data is saved to a cloud platform.
- Review the Summary page and click FINISH.

Note: There are options such as edit, delete, run, refresh, and more for a created policy. To test the policy, you can run the backup anytime. Under the activity section, you can monitor the activity and progress.
