VxRail satellite nodes are single nodes designed for deployment in edge environments and managed through a centralized primary VxRail cluster running version 7.0.300 or later. Like a normal two-node VxRail cluster or a traditional multinode VxRail cluster, satellite nodes include VxRail HCI system software, providing a consistent VxRail operational experience across the edge and the core. However, because satellite nodes are single nodes with no shared storage, they do not include any VSAN licenses.
Figure 14. VxRail cluster managing satellite nodes
With VxRail 7.0.450, satellite nodes are supported with both customer-managed vCenter Server and VxRail managed vCenter Server to perform VxRail life cycle and cluster operations, including cluster shutdown, LCM, and so on.
In versions earlier than 7.0.450, satellite nodes are only supported with customer-managed vCenter Server.
