The tasks to configure the switches to support VxRail cluster networking are basically the same when preparing to deploy the management domain or any VI workload domain.
- Configure the VLAN for the VxRail external management network. Management access to ESXi on the VxRail nodes will be provided by this network. A unique VLAN for each VxRail external management network is considered a best practice.
- Ensure routing is configured between the management network on the Cloud Foundation on VxRail management domain and the VxRail external management network.
- If vSAN will serve as the primary storage for the VxRail cluster, configure a unique VLAN for this network.
- Configure the VLAN for the vMotion network.
- Configure the VLAN for node discovery purposes.
- For the internal VxRail management network that is used for node discovery, the default VLAN configured in the factory on each node is 3939.
- If this VLAN is common across nodes for multiple VxRail clusters, each VxRail Manager instance can discover all of the nodes.
- To restrict node discovery only to the nodes to be used to form a single cluster, configure a unique VLAN on the switches.
- The default VLAN of 3939 configured in the factory on each node must also be updated if a unique VLAN for this cluster is configured on the switches.
- For the internal VxRail management network that is used for node discovery, the default VLAN configured in the factory on each node is 3939.
