PowerFlex replication uses Replication Consistency Group (RCG) to maintain write-order fidelity across groups of replicated volumes. Therefore, PowerFlex replication forms a restart solution when the remote volumes of an RCG are consistent with each other.
Note: Note the difference between a restart solution and a backup solution. In a restart solution, the target volumes are consistent, allowing the database to restart. During database restart, committed transactions that are still in the active transaction log are rolled forward and uncommitted transactions are rolled back. A backup solution uses special Microsoft VSS APIs, such as the ones used in Dell AppSync. In a backup solution, transaction logs are applied to an older backup image of the database, to roll the operation forward in time by applying additional transactions. PowerFlex replication does not use VSS APIs, does not require quiescing of the SQL Server operations, and forms a restart solution and not a backup solution.
