Installation of Kinetica using KAgent involves the automated deployment of the installation package via a browser-based UI or a console-driven CLI. We chose a browser-based UI for this white paper.
Pre-requisites:
- Ensure the KAgent service is started.
service kagent_ui status
- Browse to the KAgent UI using IP or hostname.
http://<kagent-host>:8081/kagent
Procedure:
- To begin setting up a cluster, click Add New or Existing Cluster from KAgent UI

- Provide the cluster configuration details
- Name of the cluster and name cannot contain spaces or underscores
- For Packages, select the packages core and etcd
- For Install Method, select Online which installs directly from the online Kinetica repository
- For the version, select either CUDA (GPU) or Intel (CPU-only) based on card type
- Enter the License Key
- Click Next

- Select the On Premise deployment method and click Next

- Provide the Security configuration details (these steps are only required if Core is being installed)
- Enter and confirm an Admin Password. This must meet the password strength requirements
- Select an SSL Mode as Cert/key setup not required
- Select an Authentication type as None for no authentication
- Click Next
- Provide the Node configurations
- For each node, input a custom Label (hostname is suggested), the Internal IP, and the Public IP
- Select the node that has core and etcd package installed
- Select that node for Head node using the corresponding radio button.
This server will receive user requests and parcel them out to the other worker nodes of the system. The head node of the cluster will also be used for the administration of the cluster. And by default, the hosting of GAdmin and as such
- Click Next
- Provide the credentials
- For the Server SSH Credentials, enter the SSH username and password or upload the SSH private key that will be used to access the node(s)
- Optionally, enter the sudo password
- Click Verify
- The console will appear to show the log of KAgent interactions as KAgent attempts to access the cluster with the provided credentials and retrieve information about the hosts, including Kinetica version and configuration (if installed), hostname and IP addresses, OS type, and Nvidia information
