On PowerStore X, the VMware components are updated separately from the PowerStoreOS. However, the version of ESXi running on the PowerStore X ESXi servers must be validated by Dell Technologies. Refer to Table 12 in the PowerStore support matrix.
Although it is not necessary, it is possible to maintain the same version of the PowerStoreOS code with the version listed in the VxBlock 1000 Release Certification Matrix (RCM). The version of ESXi listed in the VxBlock 1000 RCM may not match the version of ESXi supported on a specific version of PowerStore X. Therefore, if updating the PowerStore X OS software to align with the VxBlock 1000 RCM PowerStoreOS, ensure that the ESXi version running on the PowerStore X matches the PowerStore support matrix and not the VxBlock 1000 RCM.
The VMware vCenter Server software is backward compatible, but not forward compatible. Therefore, ensure that the VMware vCenter Server version for the PowerStore X ESXi cluster is at the same or higher version than the version of ESXi on the PowerStore X.
As an example, PowerStore X version 2.0.1.1-1471924 supports VMware ESXi, 6.7.0 U3 P05 (Build 17700523). Ensure the version of RCM installed on the VxBlock System 1000 is 6.7.10.0 or higher, which contains VMware vCenter Server 6.7 Update 3n (Build 18010531) or higher.
