The Hyper-V Virtual FC feature enables a VM to connect directly to a SAN through a virtualized FC adapter. Establishing connectivity to the SAN by using a virtual FC adapter is a two-step process:
- Create a SAN.
- Add a virtual FC adapter to the VM and connect it to the SAN.
Create a SAN
Create a SAN:
- On the Windows Start screen, click Server Manager.
- Select Tools > Hyper-V Manager.
- In the Action pane, click Virtual SAN Manager.
- Click Create.
- In the Name field, enter the name for the new SAN.
- In the Notes field, enter any important information for the SAN.
- Ensure that you select at least one available WWN for the SAN to be used by the virtual FC adapter.
- Click OK.
- In Hyper-V Manager, click VirtualSAN Manager to view the new SAN.
Add a virtual FC adapter to the VM and connect it to the SAN
Add a virtual FC adapter to the VM and connect it ito the SAN:
- On the Windows Start screen, click Server Manager.
- Select Tools > Hyper-V Manager.
- In Hyper-V Manager, under Virtual Machines, click the name of the VM that you want to add, as described in Creating a VM.
- In the Action panel, click Settings.
- In Add Hardware, review a list of the hardware options that you can add to the VM.
- Click Fibre Channel Adapter, and then click Add.
- In Settings, connect the virtual FC adapter to a SAN that you previously created:
- Click the Virtual SAN list box that shows Not connected.
- Select the name of the required SAN.
- Configure the WWNs (Set A and Set B) for the virtual FC adapter.
You can use the automatically generated default WWNs or manually assign them.
- Configure both WWN sets to ensure a successful live migration of the VM.
