Configuration details | - Log in with an administrative account.
- Go to Manage > Security & Users > Users and select Add User.
- Enter the details for a user.
Note: (Optional) To add custom roles, go to Manage > Security & Users > Roles and select Add Role. - Click Host and then select Actions > Permissions.
- Select Add user.
- In the drop-down menu, select the user created earlier.
- On the right-side box, select the role (such as Read-Only).
- Select to Propagate to all children.
- Select Add User.

Verification steps | - Log out of ESXi.
- Enter in the credentials for a read-only user.
- Try to execute a function such as creating a VM.
- Confirm that the user is not able to create, power off, power on, or restart VMs.

Helpful tips | This applies to local accounts on ESXi. It is recommended to leverage central authentication accounts as much as possible to reduce the overhead of managing multiple credentials across the network. |
