PTC applications are deployed on VMs. The objective of the test is to create clones of the PTC ThingWorx application VMs for quick restart if the source VM goes down. - Create periodic clones of the PTC application VMs. See PTC application clone for retention for setup details. For better efficiency, these periodic clones can recycle prior clones so that only a small set of the latest clones is retained on the system.
- Create clones to maintain the last known good state to represent the proper operational state of the edge deployment.
- Consider the role-based HA/DR configuration discussed in a prior test so that an appropriate cloning strategy can be deployed. When logical or physical corruption occurs on the original source VM, these clones are used to return the system to the last good state, making the edge deployment functional again with a minimal amount of management overhead and recovery requirements.
ThingWorx clones were created, and when a source VM went down, a clone was used to start a ThingWorx instance on that clone. All edge devices connected to ThingWorx continued to function when this new instance started.
