PTC applications are deployed on VMs. The objective of the test is to register multiple Kepware Server instances with a single ThingWorx instance for HA and DR. The purpose of this test is not the HA for Kepware Server with such deployment, rather it is for ensuring HA for the data ingest and no data loss in the event of connectivity loss from Kepware Server to a ThingWorx instance. This demonstrates consolidation of data aggregation at a single ThingWorx instance for the incoming traffic from the Kepware Server level. This is useful to ensure continuous availability if the same set of devices are serviced by different Kepware Server instances. - Deploy PTC ThingWorx, Kepware Server, and Kepware Edge on VMs on a three-node VxRail cluster.
- Set up multiple Kepware Server instances that can either work in HA or fault tolerant configuration and support the same set of devices or support multiple sets of sensors and gateway devices. These devices can also span across OT and IT infrastructure boundaries to support a diverse set of workflows and use cases. See Set up Kepware Server and Set up ThingWorx for setup details.
- Register these instances to a common ThingWorx instance and configure the data aggregation.
- ThingWorx manages multiple Kepware Servers and aggregates data ingest from different sources.
- This is also a great way to create a segmented edge infrastructure to support diverse sets of use cases across multiple factories, divisions, or plants.
