Multipath I/O is a software solution implemented at the host operating system level, providing path redundancy, failover, and performance-enhancing capabilities. While it is an optional solution, it is highly recommended to deploy it on hosts connected to the PowerStore appliance. Device Mapper Multipath (DM-Multipath) is a free native Linux multipath I/O solution supported by all Linux distributions. Red Hat Enterprise Linux includes the multipath software in the device-mapper-multipath package. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server includes it in the multipath-tools package.
DM-Multipath has a set of default settings for an extensive list of storage models from different vendors. The default settings allow the software to work with PowerStore right out of the box. However, these settings might not be optimal for all situations and should be reviewed and modified if necessary. For example, although PowerStore is ALUA-capable, the default settings may not activate ALUA by default. For the most up-to-date and accurate configuration settings for PowerStore, it is highly recommended to consult the Dell PowerStore Host Configuration Guide at Dell Technologies Support.
