PowerStoreOS 3.0 introduces native metro volume. Metro provides bi-directional synchronous replication of block storage across two PowerStore appliances in an active/active configuration. This feature is for disaster avoidance, application load balancing, and migration.
Users can configure metro volumes with either non-uniform or uniform host connectivity. In the non-uniform configuration, hosts are only connected to the local appliance, while in the uniform configuration, hosts can access both local and remote appliances. Hosts in a uniform configuration can select the optimal path to access the metro volumes but require host multipath software that supports ALUA. This protocol enables hosts to identify and choose the best path, to optimize performance and minimize the risk of downtime.
Metro volume is available on PowerStore T models only. For more information about Metro protection, see the document Dell PowerStore: Replication Technologies and Dell PowerStore: Metro Volume.
