Data movement of the generic application backup files from Active tier to Cloud Tier

  • Once the generic application files are backed up in active tier, perform the following steps to move the generic application backup files to the Cloud Tier configured using Amazon S3:

    1. To migrate the generic application backup files to the Cloud Tier, we need to configure a file migration policy for the DD storage file system called Mtree. Run the following commands to configure the age-threshold policy and verify the policy settings:

    # data-movement policy set age-threshold <age_in_days> to-tier cloud cloud-unit <unitname> mtrees <mtreename>

     

    # data-movement policy show

    1. Run the following command to Initiate the migration of the generic application backup files to the Cloud Tier:

    # data-movement start mtrees <mtreename>

    1. Run the following command to check the data movement progress:

    # data-movement watch

    1. Once the data movement of all the generic application backup files to the Cloud Tier is complete, run the following command to check the status of data movement:

    # data-movement status

    1. Run the following command to verify that each generic application backup file location has moved to the Cloud Tier:

    # filesys report generate file-location

    1. The following figure from the DD GUI shows that the Cloud Tier space usage, deduplication, and compression information after the generic application backup files have been moved to the Cloud Tier.
