Configure a virtual IP address for the NSX Manager cluster

Configure a virtual IP address for the NSX Manager cluster

  • A virtual IP address (VIP) is used to provide fault tolerance and high availability to NSX Manager nodes. The leader node of the cluster takes ownership of the VIP to service any API and UI requests. If the leader node becomes unavailable, NSX-T elects a new leader that assumes ownership of the VIP.

    To configure a VIP, perform the following steps.

    1. In the NSX Manager web UI, select System > Appliances .
    2. On the NSX Appliances page, click SET VIRTUAL IP .
    3. Enter the Virtual IP Address for the cluster. Ensure that the VIP is part of the same subnet as the other NSX Managers. In this example, the VIP address is 172.18.11.81.
    4. Click SAVE .
    When complete, the Virtual IP appears on the NSX Appliances page as shown:
    Note: It may take approximately 3 to 4 minutes to set the VIP and for the cluster status to return to STABLE .

    Note: To access the NSX Manager web UI, instead of connecting to a specific NSX appliance, connect to the FQDN that resolves to the VIP, https://nsxmgr.dell.lab in this example, as a best practice.
