SmartFabric Services (SFS) is included with Dell EMC SmartFabric OS10. With SFS, customers can quickly and easily deploy and automate data center networking fabrics.
Figure 1. From a network of boxes to a networked fabric
Dell EMC PowerSwitch switches are cabled and placed in SmartFabric mode specifying their role (leaf or spine). Switches discover each other and elect one as the SmartFabric master.
SFS then automatically builds the leaf-spine fabric. This enables faster time to production for hyperconverged and private cloud environments, while being fully interoperable with existing data center infrastructure.
Figure 2. Automated leaf-spine fabric build-out
With SmartFabric Services, the network can start as a single rack with only two leaf switches, and automatically expand to a multirack environment as additional spine and leaf switches are plugged in. The fabric is then connected to the existing data center network and end hosts are onboarded to the fabric.
OpenManage Network Integration (OMNI) is the user interface to manage and operate one or more SmartFabric instances, either directly using the OMNI UI through a web browser, or through the vCenter UI when registered with vCenter.
Registering OMNI with vCenter enables a single pane of management for the physical network fabric and the VMware virtualization environment through vCenter.
Key capabilities of OMNI include:
