External switches must have available ports for connections from the existing network to the SFS border leafs (or spines if applicable). For redundancy, Dell Technologies recommends two external switches with at least two links per switch to the SmartFabric. Use enough connections to provide sufficient bandwidth for the traffic anticipated across these links. If using Dell EMC PowerSwitch systems as external switches, Dell Technologies recommends configuring them as VLT peers, as shown in the examples in this guide.
Note: This guide provides external switch configuration examples for Dell EMC PowerSwitch systems. Cisco Nexus switch configuration examples are provided in Appendix C.
