This use case addresses key points that help define your CRG. Two-socket or four-socket OLTP scale-up systems can have a virtual machine with as little as eight vCPUs and 128 GB of RAM, or a maximum of 224 vCPUs and 6 TB of RAM. This scenario assumes that a two-socket blade is used and that the number of vCPUs is greater than eight.
For an SAP HANA system of 2 TB, populating two DIMM memory banks is recommended. Populate the first memory bank with 24 DIMMs of 32 GB and the second with 24 DIMMs of 64 GB. This configuration creates a CRG with a four-socket MX blade that has 2,304 GB of memory for the SAP HANA database.
SAP HANA is Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability (ACID)-compliant. All transactions must be acknowledged at the persistence layer to ensure transaction durability. Although SAP HANA is an in-memory database, performance is dependent to some extent on the ability to quickly save transactions to storage. Reserving the fastest possible storage for the database ensures fast performance in saving committed transactions to storage. In addition, database restart times and data load times are accelerated with the fastest storage media.
Knowing these requirements, the PowerOne administrator can quickly create a CRG for a production SAP HANA database. The CPU, memory, and storage are dedicated to the SAP HANA database. No other CRGs can use the same resources, which prevents other applications from affecting our SAP HANA database.
