We implemented a virtual and 1 GbE physical network design for ESXi-based server infrastructure management. The solution uses a dedicated management and applications server (R630-Mgmt-App-Srvr) to deploy the centralized VCSA and vDS network.
As the following figure shows, there is redundancy at every level for high availability and network load balance. This redundancy is achieved by creating multiple distributed virtual uplinks (DVUplinks) and redundant and dedicated 1 GbE network adapter ports within each ESXi host. These ports in turn are connected to redundant ToR 1 GbE switches. The management traffic is separated by a dedicated VLAN network (this guide uses VLAN 379 for illustration purposes) for both security and network performance.
