We created the snapshot of the PROD database as a point-in-time consistent copy of the PROD database. The snapshot can be mounted to the DEV database that the VM hosts for a DEV or TEST database. Because a host cannot access the snapshot itself, we created a thin clone of the snapshot and mounted the thin clone to the DEV database VM host. As shown in the following figure, we created the RAC database snapshot based on the ORA_DATA storage group, which consists of DATA, FRA, and REDO volumes. To mount the snapshot to the DEV database nodes, we created a clone of the snapshot called ORA_DATA_Thin_clone.
