The server layer consists of:
- PROD virtual database servers—Two Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 servers and one PowerEdge R640 server run VMware ESXi 7.0 hypervisors for three VMs that are running the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2 guest operating system. The production InnoDB Cluster database is deployed on these three VMs.
- DEV database servers—One PowerEdge R640 server runs the ESXi 7.0 hypervisor for one VM that is running the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2 guest operating system. The DEV database is created from the snapshot of the production database.
- Management/tool server—This PowerEdge R640 server runs VMware ESXi 7.0 as the hypervisor and hosts multiple virtual machines (VMs):
- A VMware vCenter Server Appliance deployed as a VM
- A VM with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2 guest operating system installed on which the HammerDB test tool runs
Each database ESXi has:
- Two 10 GbE NICs—Two dual-port 10 GbE network adapters for MySQL public network traffic
- Two 32/16 Gbps HBAs—Two dual-port 32 Gbps host bus adapters (HBAs) for SAN traffic in the PROD database servers and two dual-port 16 Gbps HBAs for SAN traffic in the DEV database server
- 1 GbE management rNDC—At least one 1 GbE rNDC or LOM port for in-band management of the server from within the operating system
- 1 GbE iDRAC—A dedicated iDRAC Ethernet port for out-of-band server management
