The solution to these challenges is the Dell Validated Design for Cloud Native Splunk Enterprise with SmartStore, applied to the use case of Predictive Maintenance for IT Operations.
This validated design enables IT operators to harness and tap their data and help avoid the need for deep domain expertise in anomaly detection and asset behavior. It provides an infrastructure and solution design that enables you to implement a method for real-time predictive insights with reduced time and risk.
As described later in Solution Architecture, this design uses Splunk Enterprise in Docker containers that are compatible with the Open Container Initiative (OCI). Splunk Enterprise in containers can be deployed and operated on essentially any Kubernetes platform. For example, OpenShift and Tanzu Kubernetes Grid. This solution, however, has been validated on the Dell Validated Design for Analytics – Data Lakehouse, which includes Robin CNP as the Kubernetes platform.
Splunk Enterprise and the Splunk Universal Forwarder are available in a containerized format as Docker images. The advantages of deploying Splunk in containers include a faster time to value with a quick and reliable deployment process, increased agility, and flexibility to expand an initial Splunk footprint. Splunk Enterprise in containers provides the rich functionality that Splunk Enterprise offers with the user-friendliness and production-readiness of container-native software.
This solution also supports Splunk SmartStore and Dell Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS), an enterprise-class object storage platform used for SmartStore-based storage tiering and hot and cold bucket indexed data storage.
The predictive maintenance use case is implemented using telemetry data from the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) module that is embedded in every Dell PowerEdge server.
