Dell Technologies introduced SFS in 2018 to automate a scalable EVPN BGP environment using a single command. Dell’s SFS implementation reduces hundreds of configuration commands into a single command and empowers the administrator to deliver a complex solution efficiently. The following figure shows a typical leaf pair connected to workloads and to an aggregation layer:
Follow these steps to deploy SFS:
- Log in to the switches using the console port (this is a direct connection to the switches).
- Use the following credentials to access the switches:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin
Note: The default access credentials for all switches out of the box is admin/admin.
- Enable SFS on the switches. Use the following command to enable SFS:
Smartfabric l3fabric enable role leaf vlti ethernet 1/1/49-1/1/52
Note: The VLTi ethernet interfaces are the interlinks between the leaf switches.
- Answer Yes. The switches will reload and assume the SFS configuration. This will take approximately 3-4 minutes.
- Confirm the switches are back online and are part of the fabric.
- Obtain SFS primary node information. Use the
“show smartfabric cluster”
command.
The primary node information is needed to access the embedded SFS user interface. Using the embedded SFS UI, the networks required by the VDI workload will be deployed on the infrastructure.
