Dell Technologies recommends that the plug-in periodically runs its discovery process for the Dell OpenManage Enterprise target type, as Dell OpenManage Enterprise environments have the potential to change over time. This helps promote newly discovered device targets and remove device targets that are no longer necessary.
Regularly running the Oracle EM auto discovery process ensures the discovery of all newly added devices to the Dell plug-in environment. If the default configuration of the auto discovery process has not been modified, the OMA on which the plug-in is deployed will run a collection once a day for new device targets.
Use the following steps to configure auto discovery:
If you have chosen to enable the auto discovery schedule on the OMA for the Dell Plug-in, the process may periodically discover new device targets. These newly discovered device targets will remain listed in the Discovery Results table and will not be collected by the plug-in until they are promoted. If a user does not want to collect data for these device targets, no action is needed. However, if a user wants to collect data for these device targets, the targets must be promoted for the collection to be enabled.
To promote a device target:
Note: Promoting several device targets simultaneously is possible, however, all targets that are promoted simultaneously must be of the same target type.
Note: Changing prefilled properties during the promotion process is not recommended and could cause issues.
We recommend periodically reviewing the device targets that are promoted in the plug-in and removing devices that no longer exist, or targets that will make the plug-in run more efficiently if they are eliminated.
To remove a device target:
Avoid using non-alphanumeric characters when naming the Dell Plug-in target. Using non-alphanumeric characters may lead to collection errors during runtime.
Exceptions to these characters include underscores, spaces, and hyphens. All alphanumeric characters are acceptable for the target name. This value can be set during the target configuration and may not be modified after the target instance is created.
