Mainframe data is read using the BMC AMI Cloud Agent and uploaded to Dell Data Lakehouse S3 Storage, which in this solution is backed by Dell ECS. This data lands in the bronze (landing) layer after being transformed, the transformed data is in CSV format.
The data is then refined and converted to an open data format using ‘create table .. as select’ (also referred to as CTAS), This operation creates a new table in a different format, for this case we chose the Apache Iceberg table format. This resides in the silver (structured) layer.
These layers are referred to as a medallion architecture, which is a data design pattern used to logically organize data in a Lakehouse with the goal of incrementally and progressively improving the structure and quality of data as it flows through each layer.
