The test results are based on a model in which the constant-bandwidth video traffic remained unaffected during select storage failure scenarios, such as disk rebuild, failing processors, and failing network paths.
We used 10 GbE interfaces with Master Recorder configured on physical R730servers with the connection set at the maximum bandwidth supported. A combination of 4 Mb/s and 8Mb/s cameras were used with motion detection enabled.
We performed all tests with disk drive rebuild and replacement, to ensure a worst-case scenario for all sizing parameters.
With local storage, we recommend using RAID 6 to accommodate the disk rebuild duration. For example, in the Dell Technologies Safety & Security Lab, a disk rebuild in a 16 x 10 TB disk system takes at least 1.5 weeks to complete when 40 TB of data and 125 MB/s of write are in place.
The following table provides bandwidth-sizing guidelines based on our test results.
