A Dell Data Domain system was used for the TimesTen database backup destination. The Dell Data Domain provides the Data Domain Boost File System (BoostFS), a general file system to the Data Domain Boost library, allowing standard backup applications to take advantage of DD Boost features.
The BoostFS plug-in resides on the application system and presents a standard file system mount point to the application. With direct access to a BoostFS mount point, the application can leverage the storage and network efficiencies of the DD Boost protocol for backup and recovery.
To leverage the DD BoostFS for the TimesTen database, the BoostFS software needs to be installed on the TimesTen database server. Next, a storage unit is created in the Data Domain and must be enabled for BoostFS. After a storage unit has been created, mount the storage unit on the TimesTen server using the “boostfs mount” command.
The figure below shows the concept of using Data Domain as a backup appliance for the TimesTen database.
The TimesTen database provides utilities for backing up and restoring the database. For backup operations, the command “ttBackup” can be used. For restore operations, the command “ttRestore” can be used. See the following Oracle documentation for more details.
