The following image shows the architecture of Dell EMC Gateway Systems for SAP Edge Services:
Intel Atom processors are designed to deliver compute performance while operating in a wide range of thermal conditions. For more information, see
Intel Atom Processor E3800 Product Family and Intel Celeron Processor N2807/N2930/J1900. Dell Edge Gateway systems can operate in environmental conditions ranging from -30°C to 70°C (-25.6F to 158F) depending on the model. Along with the ability to withstand extreme temperatures, Gateway systems are designed for rugged environments. These systems can work in the field, on the factory floor, and in other environmentally challenging locations because of specialized industrial grade form factors.
Edge gateways must support a broad range of I/O capabilities to work with existing and new locations with limited connectivity. The following I/O options and ports are available in a standard Dell Gateway model:
The Intel Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a hardware security device that can identify if the start-up process of the parent device has been compromised. The TPM first checks if the start-up process has been tampered with and then passes control of the compute resources to the operating system. The TPM can also encrypt storage by using security keys and passwords, by password-protecting the BIOS, and by using the BIOS to lock down unused parallel ports.
VMware Pulse IoT Center is an edge infrastructure and IoT device management solution. Pulse IoT Center is a logical extension for customers using VMware solutions because it unifies management, security, and automation. Pulse IoT Center provides lifecycle management benefits that enable you to:
For more information, see Pulse IoT Center 2.0.
Dell EMC Edge Gateway systems are certified for Pulse IoT Center. For information about the model numbers and operating system versions, see VMware Compatibility Guide: Edge Gateways for Pulse IoT Center.
Dell EMC has two families of Edge Gateway systems: the 3000 series and the 5000 series. The 3000 series models are for customers looking for small-to-medium size Edge Gateways that are designed to manage and monitor manufacturing lines, commercial products, and other similar size environments. This series encompasses the 3001, 3002, and 3003 models, which offer the granularity and configuration options that are needed to meet many IoT Edge requirements. For larger applications, the 5000 series models offer greater processing power and more options. The 5000 model is a commercial version that is slightly smaller and lighter than the industrial version. The 5100 model is an industrial version that can tolerate more extreme operating temperatures than the commercial version. For more information, go to the Dell EMC Edge Gateway webpage.
