The Dell Validated Design for HPC pixstor Storage is a high-performance file system solution that is efficient, easy to manage, fully supported, multitiered, scalable in throughput and in capacity, and with components to allow connecting it using standard protocols like NFS, SMB, or Cloud protocols. The solution is based on the latest PowerEdge servers and PowerVault ME5 storage arrays, PowerEdge servers with NVMe PCIe 4 devices, and pixstor software from Kalray, with components like Spectrum Scale (GPFS).
The next iteration of the solution will include the PowerEdge R660, R760, and R7625, servers with the latest CPU generations and DDR5 memory and PCIe 5, which enables support for faster devices (NVMe with PCIe Gen 5) and the 400 Gb/s InfiniBand NDR (CX7 adapters and Quantum 2 switches). The work will probably be completed in stages, as the different components become available. First, we will address the PowerEdge R660, R760, and R7625, servers with a new version of the operating system and pixstor software to support new CPUs and DDR5. Later we will address storage nodes with NVMe Gen5 and NDR components.
