In this specific use case, we have implemented an automated approach for direct access to data in delta format, simplifying the process of data queries. In contrast to the previous method, which involved multiple steps such as creating a dedicated database, generating encryption keys, setting up scoped credentials, configuring external data sources, establishing Parquet file format references, creating Parquet files using OPENROWSET, converting Delta tables from Parquet using PySpark, and reading Delta files using OPENROWSET, we have now automated these procedures.
The streamlined process involves fewer steps, significantly enhancing efficiency. The new automated steps encompass the entire process of data access, ensuring a more straightforward and expeditious means of retrieving and querying data.
Clone the GitHub repository for running scripts.
Using PowerShell go to the cloned folder and run “Auto_Display.ps1”. Provide SQL Server IP, username, and password.
Once it has taken all inputs, it will create a database automatically and external tables as shown below.
If the database already exists with the same name, it will show the following error message.
After the delta table is prepared, query the data and get results, as shown below.
