Dell integrated solutions based on established principles provide customers with more value than creating their own solution, resulting in faster time-to-market and reduced risks. Dell systems engineers validated Microsoft SQL Server on Dell Integrated System for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI with Dell ObjectScale Storage to ensure that the solution is scalable, reliable, and efficient.
This guide initially outlines the major concepts involved in developing the solution such as Microsoft Azure Stack HCI, Azure Arc, Microsoft SQL Server 2022, Data virtualization, Dell ObjectScale, Data lakehouse, Apache Spark, and Delta Lake.
This document focuses on the data analytics capabilities of SQL Server 2022, particularly highlighting features such as PolyBase with Dell ObjectScale Storage. The main purpose of this Dell Validated design is to demonstrate the process of providing one or more SQL Server 2022 instances using Dell Integrated System for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI for on-site deployments. These SQL Server instances will eventually be used to establish connections with the Data Lakehouse and use various utilities for data management and analysis.
This document also explains the process of creating a solution to use Dell ObjectScale so that enterprises can seamlessly create their own setups that use data virtualization. In this solution, PolyBase was used while connecting to external storage with the S3 protocol to perform queries on external data. The ability to connect and query data present on external object storage was also validated. This guide offers an example of data virtualization where users can directly query structured or semi-structured external data.
