In this document we discussed the important issues facing organizations supplying public transportation services today. We then provided a high-level summary of our Dell Validated Design program goals and process. The Partner Overview chapter provided an introduction to the capabilities of EPIC iO’s Smart Communities-as-a-Service (SCaaS) technology. Our Lab Architecture chapter described the hardware and software used in the validation lab setup for our functionality testing. And the previous chapter, Use Case Validation, documented the details of the DeepInsights functionality we tested for a selected set of use cases.
Dell, VMware, Intel, and NVIDIA are committed to delivering IT platforms that are both highly performant and easy to manage. We have produced a series of validated design guide releases based on engineering lab projects using real-world applications, including VMS, CV, enterprise systems security, and data science. There is ample evidence proving that hosting multiple large-scale virtualized applications on a single VxRail cluster equipped with NVIDIA GPUs and managed with VMware TKG, and vSphere is preferable.
Our latest demonstration of the advantage of using an outcome-driven universal platform for computer vision solutions showed that we could start with the same core hardware and management tools used in our previous releases and extend the capability by integrating EPIC iO Edge, Core, and cloud technologies for solving challenging public transportation use cases. We showed how the powerful combination of Dell Technologies and the EPIC iO Artificial Intelligence and IoT (AI+IoT) technology allows transportation managers to:
- Understand and respond accordingly to environmental conditions in real-time.
- Bolster safety measures for pedestrians and drivers.
- Increase traffic flow and management.
- Provide community-wide access to information.
We validated many use cases that demonstrated the ability of DeepInsights to combine and enrich video streams and sensor data into a seamless operational experience. We were able to leverage DeepInsights AI models, automated logic, and visualization to deliver actionable insights in a single pane of glass accessible by cloud-based portal.
The validation team also identified a few areas of interest that we would like to investigate in the future including:
- Introducing new modular and ruggedized equipment designs into our lab environment for demonstrating bus depot operations.
- Extending the architecture to include a private cloud data center with VxRail hyper converged infrastructure running DeepInsights for data consolidation use case for multiple bus depots.
- Validate additional use cases that use a private 5G network to transfer video data from multiple vehicles simultaneously to a bus depot instance of DeepInsights.
The results of our validation allow us to conclude that our Dell Technologies solution, together with the market-leading technology from EPIC iO, is:
- Easy to deploy.
- Easy to operate.
- Easy to grow.
Embracing change and innovation can often result in organizations being paralyzed by the ‘art of the possible’. It is difficult to know where to start when presented with a cornucopia of individual use cases that may or may not apply to their specific needs. At Dell Technologies, we can help address these unknowns. With our outcomes-based process, we can help define the workflows that map to the wanted outcomes, test the solution at scale, test it to maximum limitations, and build it from an ecosystem of industry-leading partners. Through validation, best practices plus sizing, we can help you accelerate the adoption of innovation.
