The purpose of the analysis was to provide a concise but meaningful presentation, and therefore it was decided to remove some of the variables on both sides of the analysis. Although the items that have been removed are not insignificant in absolute terms, their removal does not significantly alter the overall analysis or conclusions reached. If these items were included, it would take considerable effort to factor them into the analysis, but it would not alter the outcome. The net effect of the excluded items on both sides of the analysis tend to balance each other out.
The items specifically excluded from the analysis are as follows:
The on-premises analysis does not include the cost of:
The Public Cloud analysis does not include the cost of:
In summary, none of the excluded items are insignificant in nature and the intent is not to minimize the financial impact of any of these factors. Some of these costs indeed can be high, but in terms of their net effect on the result of the overall analysis there is no meaningful significant impact.
The dollar figures given for the on-premises examples are real-world customer scenarios and represent competitive street pricing.
The Public Cloud figures are taken directly from the public AWS calculator tool and make the following assumptions:
• “On Demand” EC2 pricing model.
• Assume constant usage.
