The following prerequisites must be met before implementing VCF on PowerFlex using SDC as principal storage. They are meant to be high level as some tasks related to them are covered in the paper.
- The PowerFlex system must be two-layer. VCF cannot be implemented on an HCI configuration.
- Implementation of the PowerFlex UI (PFMP).
- Implementation of the PowerFlex storage-only nodes using a minimum of three Dell servers with sufficient networking, memory, CPU, and storage.
- Server requirements for VCF/PowerFlex compute-only nodes are as follows:
- A minimum of four Dell servers with sufficient networking, memory, CPU, and storage to satisfy the requirements of VCF and vSAN.
Note: VCF uses the policy of Bring Your Own Network (BYON). Therefore, the VMware compatibility guide no longer certifies vSAN Ready Nodes. Customers should use the VCF Planning Guide instead.
- A minimum of three Dell servers with sufficient networking, memory, CPU, and storage to satisfy the requirements of a compute-only PowerFlex node and a VCF workload domain.
- Licenses must be obtained for PowerFlex and all the VCF components in use.
