The Private Wireless solution is connected to the Edge computing as shown in the figure below.
The Edge computing and Private 5G wireless network infrastructure are physically installed at the customer premises and are isolated from the public 5G network. The applications are hosted by the edge computing serving the entire enterprise location.
The benefit of Standalone Private 5G plus Edge is to provide a fully configurable network with dedicated bandwidth for a given area, and additional enhancements for 5G infrastructure. Private Wireless brings data from the 5G enabled end points (for example IoT sensors, tablets) through the 5G Packet Core into the Edge Compute through an Ethernet connection. Data from the other end points are connected directly to the Edge Compute through wired and Wi-Fi networks
Hosting Edge compute applications on top of the edge computing allows enterprises to enhance security and develop real-time applications within their own network. Enterprise applications deployed on the Edge—for example, IoT platforms and computer vision systems—service all the data within the Enterprise, including the data from the Private Wireless connected devices.
The infrastructure can be expanded to meet the growing requirements of the network and to service additional devices. Applications are homogeneous across the infrastructure, allowing customers to focus on the Edge use cases, rather than the platform compatibility.
Private 5G wireless solution are best suited for controlled environments (for example factory, campus, office) and can be employed in place of, or alongside existing Wi-Fi solutions. Private Wireless operates on licensed and private spectrum.
Private 5G wireless networks offer a superior solution compared to Wi-Fi in various scenarios. For instance, when an enterprise requires a dependable quality of service for endpoint devices or when latency sensitivity is crucial for endpoint devices, a private 5G wireless network becomes the preferred option. Additionally, when the applications running on the network support critical business functions, and devices require seamless connectivity even when in transit, private wireless networks become a more viable option. Finally, if data needs to be kept highly secure, private 5G wireless networks provide a more secure option compared to Wi-Fi.
