The XE7100 is a 5U ultra dense storage chassis targeted at Object, file and safety and security workloads.
This solution is comprised of:
- 5U chassis with support for 100 x 3.5" hard drives
- Fits into a Dell standard 1070MM rack.
- Uses independent Boot and Storage capacity disk controllers.
- Supports up to 16 TB drives. The Dell Technologies Safety & Security Lab tests were conducted using 12 TB drives.
- Single (XE7440) or Dual (XE7420) node offerings
- Single node increases platform flexibility by growing to a full width solution with additional PCIe options and additional power.
- Single node supports up to 100 internal drives.
- Dual node supports up to 50 internal drives per node (tested).
- Both single/dual node offerings support:
- 2 NVMe (7MM) drives only
- 2 SATA SSD only
- 2 NVMe (7MM) only drives for caching, journaling, and logging along with 2 SATA SSD drives for boot
- 4 SATA SSD
The test results are based on a model in which the constant-bandwidth safety and security video traffic remained unaffected during select storage failure scenarios, such as disk rebuild .
We performed all tests with disk drive failures to ensure a worst-case scenario for all sizing parameters.
We used 10 GbE interfaces with up to four Recorder roles. We performed all tests with 4 Mb/s cameras.
Dell Technologies recommends:
- Using RAID 10 for Boot drive and Live DB storage.
- Using RAID 6 with local storage to accommodate the disk rebuild duration.
- Using RAID 6 (22+2) with 2 RAID groups for single node implementations to achieve similar performance.
We tested with RAID 5 for Boot Drive and LIve DB for maximum capacity to represent a worst-case scenario.
