Enhance GIS workflow with Digital Twin simulation capabilities

    This validation investigated how a GIS urban 3D city model created within CityEngine can leverage the simulation capabilities of applications that are built on Omniverse to provide an enhanced outcome.

    In the following validation, we:

    1. Start with a CityEngine model of Miami City complete with GIS and terrain data.
    2. Conduct a rudimentary Sun Study simulation on the Miami City scape to model accurate sunlight depictions.
    3. Generate a high-resolution simulation video of the sun study.

    CityEngine model

    Create a scene and import a GIS City map including terrain data.

    Conduct sunlight Omniverse simulation

    The following use case leverages the Omniverse USD Composer template to expose the Sun Study capability to simulate sunlight behavior on the previously imported CityEngine model of the Miami City scape.

    These are the high-level steps for Omniverse Sun Study simulation:

    1. Enable the Omniverse Environment Sun Study extension.
    2. Select the Sun Study tool.
    3. Confirm Geographic Location (Latitude, Longitude and Orientation) values.
    4. Set the Time and Date values.
    5. Click Play and watch the sun cycle for the selected time period.
    6. Optionally, render the simulation using the movie capture tool.

    Seasonal light modeling and simulations are possible by adjusting time and dates.
