SRP configuration
The PowerMax comes fully preconfigured from Dell with all disk groups, data (thin) pools, and data devices (TDAT) created. An overview of how these objects are constructed on the array is included below:
- Disk groups—A collection of physical EFD or SCM drives with the same capacity.
- Data devices (TDATs)—An internal device that is dedicated to providing physical storage used by thin devices. The TDATs in a data pool have a single RAID protection, are fixed size, and each hard drive has at least 16 hypers.
- Data (thin) pools—A collection of data devices of identical emulation and protection type, all of which reside on disks of the same technology type and speed. The disks in a data pool are from the same disk group.
- Storage resource pools (SRP)—One (default) SRP is preconfigured on the array. The storage resource pool contains all the disk groups on the array, and thus all data pools. When a device is created, it is associated with the storage resource pool and immediately becomes ready. This process is automatic and requires no setup.
Note: The physical makeup of the default SRP cannot be modified. However, if multiple SRPs are available (Dell involvement is required), the SRP designated as default can be changed.
