This guide describes how the VMware vSphere platform works with Dell PowerMax storage systems and software technologies. It is not designed to be read as a traditional book, rather to be used as a reference on the pertinent topic.
As part of an effort to improve and enhance the performance and capabilities of its product lines, Dell periodically releases revisions of its hardware and software. Therefore, some functions that are described in this document may not be supported by all versions of the software or hardware currently in use. For the most up-to-date information about product features, see the product release notes.
This guide is not designed to be the definitive source of supported products and features of PowerMax and VMware. Both Dell and VMware have extensive compatibility matrices which should be consulted when determining whether a particular platform or feature is supported. The guide references them throughout when covering features.
This document is intended for use by storage administrators, system administrators, and VMware administrators.
Readers of this document are expected to be familiar with the following topics:
Note: In this document, VMware by Broadcom is shortened to VMware.
